The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) seized a whopping 2.7 tonnes of adulterated ghee worth Rs17 lakh from M/s Dhanvi Enterprises in Palanpur city of Banaskantha on Friday morning. Commissioner Dr HG Koshia said that a raid was conducted following suspicion about the quality of ghee being manufactured by the company.
The FDCA team, in the presence of Hitesh Gordhan Modi — the owner of the firm that had been raided, took six samples of Anmol premium brand ghee and one of loose ghee, and sent all 7 samples to its lab for tests.
Meanwhile, the remaining 2,740 litres of ghee was seized by the team. On further investigation, the team found that the firm was bringing in cheap ghee from other firms, repackaging it and then selling this product in other states.
M/s Dhanvi Enterprises has been earlier found guilty of producing adulterated ghee. This company has been involved in three cases of adjudication and was fined Rs21 lakh earlier. Further investigation into this latest case is underway.
