The first round of online allotment for admissions to Class 1 under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in private schools in Gujarat will be announced today.
This year, there has been a 50% reduction in RTE seats, with over 2 lakh children vying for just 43,000 seats.
The state’s primary education department has started the RTE admission process early this year so children could be admitted before the schools break for vacation.
However, on the other hand, with thousands of RTE seats being reduced this year, many children are seen to be unable to get RTE admissions, and will have to opt for admission in private schools by paying hefty fees.
A record 2.35 lakh forms were filled for admission under RTE this year, out of which over 20,000 were rejected.
After scrutiny and verification of the documents, more than 2 lakh forms have been found valid.
Students’ guardians will be required to login to the RTE portal, and later visit the school where their child has been allotted admission with the documents in person and confirm the admission.
Parents will be given a few days to confirm the admission.
Every year, the department conducts three rounds of RTE admissions, which will be carried out this year as well.
