Ahmedabad: With the mercury crossing 40°C, the city’s civic body has installed mist generators at traffic junctions to provide relief to commuters during the scorching summer heat.
The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated a pilot project by installing a high-pressure sprinkler system at a crossroads near Kankaria Lakefront and other locations. This system converts water from its sprinklers into fine mist, offering relief to commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, from the intense heat.
However, being a pilot project, the mist system is experiencing some teething issues, such as mist being sprayed after the vehicle passes the traffic signal. While the public views the mist system as a relief, there is a belief that if the mist system sprays water in an unsynchronized manner, it may result in water and money wastage.
The AMC has also announced that until July 15, Atal Bridge, the lower promenade of the Sabarmati Riverfront, and public parks will remain open until 11 p.m.
