After a patient in the Juhapura area died on Apr 6, his relatives allegedly became violent and attacked the doctors.
The incident took place at a hospital run by Dr Uzer Shaikh in the Seventh Heaven building on Sarkhej-Makarba Road.
Alamkhan Pathan, a Juhapura resident, had been undergoing treatment for heart disease at Dr Shaikh’s hospital for the past three years. He also suffered from diabetes, blood pressure issues, and other ailments.
He was admitted to the hospital on Apr 4 after his heart rate dropped. However, his condition worsened on Apr 6, and he was again rushed back to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The doctors performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) in a last-ditch effort to save him but to no avail.
According to the complaint filed by the hospital, four of the deceased’s relatives attacked the doctor and the staff. They also vandalised the hospital.
The police were called to the scene, but the attackers fled with the body of Alamkhan Pathan, threatening the hospital staff as they left.
The Sarkhej police have registered a case based on the complaint and have started an investigation against unknown persons. They have also obtained CCTV footage of the incident.
