In a couple of weeks, India will begin voting in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections, with polling to take place in a phased manner between April 19 and June 4. The voting list for these elections has already been compiled and the registration process for new Voter ID has also been closed.
But as soon as the elections end, the registration process will restart. This time around, those who are 17 and above, can apply in advance for Voter ID registration. Earlier, those who had turned 18 by January 1, were the only ones allowed to apply.
Now, individuals turning 18 on April 1, July 1, or October 1 in 2024, will be allowed to register as voters and be granted an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). Here’s how one can do that online:
Apply through the ECI (Election Commission of India) app, available on both Play Store and App Store.
Alternatively, one can visit voterportal.eci.gov.in and fill out Form 6, while submitting the necessary documents along with a passport-sized photo.
‘Form 6’ can be found under the ‘New Registrations for General Elections’ segment on the said portal.
The status of the application can be tracked using the reference number.
Apply for Voter ID Card Offline:
Those willing to complete the process offline, will have to visit the Booth Level Office (BLO) in their locality, fill out Form 6, and submit the necessary documents. It is to be noted that the necessary documents for the registration process remain the same, whether you apply online or offline.
These documents include a passport-sized photo, identity proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth. Furthermore, the registering voters can call the ‘Voter Helpline’ at 1950, to seek any assistance regarding the entire process.
