Given the scorching summer heat, the traffic department has announced that the red signals at around 100 traffic junctions in the city will be inactive from 12 noon to 4 pm. This move is aimed at providing relief to commuters and will be implemented soon.
According to JCP Traffic, N N Chaudhary, while the red signal will be off, yellow blinkers will be operational. Traffic personnel will be stationed at these junctions to manage traffic congestion during 12 noon to 4 pm. ORS beverages will be provided to citizens and traffic personnel to prevent dehydration, he added.
The city has around 305 traffic signals, with approximately 200 of them experiencing heavy traffic. These signals will still be active but for shorter durations to provide relief to commuters.
