The residents in the outskirts areas of the city, such as Shela, South Bopal, and Ghuma, are facing heavy heat not only from summer but also from frequent power cuts. With the mercury already crossing 40 degrees Celsius, the inconsistent power supply by the government-run Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd has become a problem for the citizens.
After facing these issues, some locals took to Twitter to express their frustration against the UGVCL.
One user commented, “The power fluctuations and outages in the Shela Ahmedabad area are damaging and affecting residents of Shela badly. @UGVCL_official. Request to do the needful for real development. Many houses are facing damage to electrical equipment.”
Another resident wrote, “@UGVCL_official @CEOP_UGVCL Power outage for the second time in a day at Bopal, Ahmedabad. @CMOGuj @AmitShah @Bhupendrapbjp, your own area is facing power outage in 2024!! It’s high time Bopal gets Torrent power and gets rid of faulty UGVCL.”
In response to the situation, a senior UGVCL official told the newspaper that they have initiated the installation of underground feeder lines to transmit power from generating stations or substations to various areas. They have set a target to install 28 feeder lines covering areas such as Shela, Bopal, Shilaj, Ghuma, and South Bopal.
It is learnt that seven lines will be operational by the end of April, with the rest expected to be functional before the monsoon season. The official also stated that the new feeder lines would provide relief as they have a higher capacity to handle increased electricity demand.”
