Accused in 17-year-old’s death in accident on Sindhu Bhavan road held

In another tragic incident taking place on the city roads, an individual lost his life after being hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) car near Ahmedabad’s Sindhu Bhavan road in the wee hours of Mar 9.

Business News

M-division police have registered a case and arrested the perpetrator, Prem Mali, accused of being behind the killer wagon’s wheel.

Tragic accident on Sindhu Bhavan road

As per preliminary information, 17-year-old Jaydeep Solanki was a resident of the city’s Shahpur area.

Solanki left home at 10.30 p.m. on Mar 8 to meet his friends. After which, he left his friends for some work nearby at around 2 a.m. on his friend’s bike.

While returning from Pakwan crossroads, the driver in his lane lost control of his Mahindra Thar car (registration number GJ 27 ED 0106), and collided with Solanki near the Ornet Park vicinity.

The victim was reportedly flung 50 feet into the air, while the accused fled the scene immediately after the accident.

A heavy crowd, gathered at the scene owing to this accident, rushed Solanki to a private hospital in Bopal, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Both victim and accused driving friends’ vehicles

21-year-old Prem Mali, accused of driving the car, has been arrested by the police.

Mali, a resident of Deesa, currently stays in a PG (paying guest) near Gulbai Tekra, and studies MBA (Masters of Business Administration) from Sabarmati University.

Mali too had borrowed his friend’s vehicle two days before the accident, and was also headed to meet his friends when the accident took place.

The police are investigating the case and are trying to ascertain the speed of the car at the time of the accident with the help of CCTV footage.

Accident cases on SG highway

It is noteworthy that in the 44.5 km-long stretch of SG Highway (Sarkhej-Gandhinagar) connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, a part of NH 8C, is an accident-prone zone.

In a bid to reduce road accidents on the stretch, rumble strip technology is set to be installed on SG Highway.

This accident is reminiscent of the accident from last year, wherein a speeding luxury car crashed into a group of people who had ironically gathered to help the victims of another accident on the SG highway.

The accident occurred at the ISKCON bridge on July 21, wherein nine people including a police constable and a home guard jawan died.
