LG Hospital in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar area is facing a shortage of doctors, with four key positions, including the chief resident medical officer (RMO) and three casualty medical officers (CMOs), lying vacant for two to three years.
The hospital has a provision for housing a chief RMO and two assistant RMOs. However, the duties are currently assigned to the assistant RMO, as the former position has been vacant for the past two and a half years.
In addition, one of the assistant RMOs was transferred three months ago, leaving that position vacant as well.
This has resulted in a delay in addressing the grievances of thousands of patients who visit the hospital every day.
As per Dr Lina Dabhi, superintendent of LG Hospital, “The assistant RMO who was transferred three months ago has been re-transferred to the hospital and will resume charge in two to three days.”
“We have issued requests to the health department of the municipality for the appointment of another assistant RMO and three CMOs, and the process of appointment is underway,” Dr Dabhi added.
Patients from the city’s Vatva, Lambha, Aslali, Narol, Hathijan, Ramol, Vastral, and Naroda areas, along with nearby villages, approach LG Hospital for various treatments.
However, the absence of an assistant RMO has been hindering their proper treatment.
As a result, the hospital is currently functioning with only one medical officer instead of the required three.
Out of the seven CMOs in the hospital, three positions have been vacant for three years. This makes supervising patients with emergency cases extremely difficult.
