The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has successfully implemented the Integrated Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System (GPS) across its State Transport (ST) buses.
GSRTC and passengers, both will benefit from this project. Real-time monitoring of all buses enables the corporation to manage and operate its fleet more efficiently, ensuring the safety of passengers and buses through the Integrated Vehicle Tracking (I.V.T.) application.
Before 2015, the corporation faced operational challenges, including fleet tracking, schedule management, complaints of irregularities, and a lack of real-time information for passengers. To address these issues, the corporation recognized the need for a robust technological solution. The Integrated Vehicle Tracking and Passenger Information System (GPS) was established to overcome the above problems.
GPS devices were installed in 2400 buses in the first phase, 2600 buses in the second phase, and approximately 3300 buses remaining in the third phase. Along with this, in the first phase, 591 passenger information systems were installed at different 100 bus stations. 16 Divisional Command Control Centers and 1 Central Command Control Station were also established in the Central Office.
