Days after the Harni Lake boat capsizing incident, a major slip at the end of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) authorities came to light.
The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has been accused of operating boating activities at three centres on the Sabarmati Riverfront without checking the valid licence of the contractor.
In a municipal board meeting, the leader of the opposition, Shehzad Khan Pathan, accused SRFDCL of not checking the licences of the contractors for the boating activity.
The statement came after SRFDCL recently halted all boating, water riding, and kayaking activities along the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.
The boating activities were operated at three centres along the Riverfront. Boating near Usmanpura garden, near Vallabh Sadan , and near Ambedkar Bridge was operational for a year without valid licences from the fire department, police verification department, or roads and buildings (R&B) department, he claimed.
Also, all the three centres in question were operated by a single contractor.
After the tragic Harni Lake boat capsizing incident, which claimed the lives of 17 people, the authorities of Sabarmati Riverfront have been asked to submit a licence for boating, and the boating activities have been halted for the time being.
