A Mobile e-challan App was launched in major cities of Gujarat to curb traffic violations. Developed with the assistance of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the app was launched under the One Nation One Challan project.
It covers several traffic offenses, including driving without a helmet, seatbelt violations, and improper parking. Offenders can promptly pay fines through their phones or within 90 days of the e-challan issuance. Failure to pay within the stipulated period leads to the transfer of the fine to the virtual court, followed by escalation to the physical court after 45 days of non-payment, where the offender may be summoned.
A noteworthy feature of the app is its immediate notification of generated e-challans to the relevant Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). This real-time integration prevents vehicle owners from selling or transferring their vehicles until all outstanding dues are settled.
The app also enables the police to penalize out-of-state vehicles and offenders as it is connected with RTOs nationwide for tracing and fining those who violate traffic rules.
