Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Monday the actions being taken “to mitigate the situation in the near future” amid the extreme fog conditions in Delhi that forced the airlines to delay or divert their flights. All parties involved are “working round the clock to minimise the fog-related impact,” he further assured the public.
“Unprecedented fog struck Delhi yesterday morning, causing visibility to fluctuate for several hours and occasionally to zero between five and nine in the morning. Because CAT III runways are unable to support Zero-Visibility operations, the authorities were forced to impose a temporary shutdown of operations on them. Passenger safety, which continues to be the top priority for everyone involved in the aviation ecosystem, was taken into consideration when making the decision, Scindia posted on social media X.
“The DGCA will issue an SOP for airlines on better communication and facilitation of passengers to minimise discomfort in view of flight cancellations & delays due to adverse weather,” he added.
Scindia requested travellers to bear with the authorities “during this difficult period”.
