Gujarati poet, Vinod Joshi has been honoured with the Sahitya Akademi Award for his groundbreaking prolonged poetry ‘Sairandhri’. His work has been adjudged as the pinnacle of literary achievement in the Gujarati language category for the year 2023.
The Sahitya Akademi, India’s national academy of letters, declared the award on December 20, praising ‘Sairandhri’ for its distinctive and poignant exploration of Draupadi’s emotional journey during her exile in the Mahabharata. The award includes Rs 1 lakh of cash prize, a casket, and a shawl that will be presented to Joshi at a grand event in Delhi on March 12 next year.
