Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, is now poised to have more international-standard stadiums with the construction of an Olympic-standard football stadium and four other stadiums of international caliber in Ahmedabad.
The Central and state governments have already sanctioned the basic plan, and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has commenced the tendering process for these five stadiums.
The SVP Sports Enclave’s master plan has been developed with the specific requirements for organizing Olympic events in mind, potentially playing a crucial role in India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics.
The master plan outlines five new venues in the 350-acre integrated precinct along the Sabarmati riverfront, supplementing the existing Narendra Modi Stadium.
These venues include a 50,000-capacity football stadium, two indoor arenas with capacities of 18,000 and 10,000 each, a 12,000-capacity aquatics center, and a 10,000-capacity tennis center.
The Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (GOLYMPIC) has initiated the detailed design and implementation process, aiming to commence construction of the enclave by October 2024, with an anticipated completion date in October 2027.
