The Gujarat High Court asked the authorities to launch a fortnight-long drive against illegal parking and encroachment on five hotspots in the city to avoid traffic congestion and accidents.The court was hearing a contempt of court petition filed by advocate Amit Panchal over civic issues, including stray cattle menace, traffic congestion, illegal parking among others.
While hearing the petition, Justice AJ Shastri stated that, “I think every possible step taken by the government depends upon the civic sense of the people. What can be done by the authorities”.
The HC asked the advocate general Kamal Trivedi to find five hotspots over where the problem of illegal parking is persistent. Such spots can be Sardar Patel Stadium Road, Judges Bungalow Road, Surdhara Circle, Thaltej- Shilaj Road and Subhash Chowk to Zydus Hospital road. The court posted the further hearing to January 5. Meanwhile, heated arguments erupted between lawyer of cattle owner Hriday Buch and AMC lawyer Gursharan Virk over upkeep of cattle and impoundment. The police and civic authorities submitted their action taken report with regard to curbing traffic problems, damaged roads and stray cattle. The court asked them to continue taking stringent actions.
