A total of 2,576 people have filed complaints that they had been deprived of their basic rights in 2022-23 in Gujarat. Out of these, 576 cases were reported from Ahmedabad and 106 from Ahmedabad rural, as per state records.
Approximately 9,272 cases of human rights violations were recorded between August 2020 and August 2023 in Gujarat. From 2006 to August 2023, 48,919 people filed cases of human rights violations in Gujarat.
The complaints come from prisoners, labourers, children, women, employees exploited by the private or public sector, and other common people who have been deprived of their human rights.
The complaints were also filed for environment, public health protection, and discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, gender, and sexual orientation.
A total of 15,843 people filed complaints between 2015 and 2020. Out of which 6,662 cases were related to property, land, and family disputes, 5,010 cases were against police, and 1,644 cases were against miscreants and gangs. Cases involving human rights violations against women totalled 820.
