The Gujarat University board of management and executive council suspended three professors and initiated an inquiry against another concerning alleged financial irregularities.
The board reviewed a report from the university’s women’s development cell on Mukesh Khatik, the former head of the social sciences department, concluding that he was guilty of misconduct. Khatik was suspended, and the board directed the formation of an inquiry panel, led by a retired judge, to further investigate the matter. One of Khatik’s female colleagues had accused him of mental harassment, prompting the university to refer the complaint to the women’s development cell.
The board suspended Professor Vipul Patel from the MSW department and Professor Vanrajsinh Chavda from the Indian culture department, citing the illegality of their appointments. Neerja Gupta, the vice chancellor of Gujarat University, stated, “The university has taken action by suspending three professors, namely Mukesh Khatik, Vipul Patel, and Vanrajsinh Chavda, and has also initiated an inquiry against Kanwaljit Lakhtaria.”
