As many as 9000 Ahmedabadis fined for not wearing helmets, more than 36,000 for neglecting seat belts, and over 6,000 for wrong-side driving. Ahmedabad has witnessed a significant rise in the number of road accidents, prompting stringent action by the Ahmedabad Traffic Police.
Since January 1 this year, the traffic police have imposed fines exceeding Rs 47 lakhs on over 9,000 individuals caught riding without helmets, averaging approximately 800 violators per month. more than 1.83 crore in fines have been imposed on over 36,000 individuals for violating seat belt rules while driving cars. Moreover, over 4,500 individuals were caught using mobile phones while driving, with fines totalling over Rs 23 lakh.
Driving on the wrong side remained a significant concern in the city, with more than 6,000 individuals caught for this violation this year.
over 20,000 individuals were caught driving without driving licence, vehicle registration, insurance or Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Consequently, the traffic police have been averaging over 2,000 monthly detentions for driving without necessary documents. Cumulatively, over Rs 94 lakh fine was imposed on such violators.
