The Gujarat government announced that toilets at all bus ports and adjacent areas will be made free of charge. While this decision benefits the public, it will result in a monthly revenue loss of Rs. 10 lakhs for the state government, which was previously earned from pay-and-use toilets.
The implementation of this decision to provide free toilets at all bus ports in Gujarat will commence after the month of March. Notices will be served to pay-and-use contractors for all bus ports in Gujarat by March, after which the toilets will be accessible without charge.
The the government has decided to station a Janitor (cleaner) 24 hours a day at each bus stand. The ST department has launched the cleanliness drive today, aiming to improve ST bus services beyond luxury buses. More than 550 elected representatives, including 125 bus stand elected members across Gujarat, have joined the campaign for station cleaning.
