The Association of private school trustees has recommended that the base annual fees set by the state education department be raised by 50%.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) recently invited suggestions from private schools and guardians of students on the revision of base fees. December 20 was the last day to submit suggestions by post or email. The committee set up to revise the base fees will consider these suggestions before submitting its final report by December 31.
The state education department had set the base fees per student for private schools at Rs 15,000 for primary schools, Rs 25,000 for secondary schools and Rs 30,000 for higher secondary schools. The school association wants these to be raised to Rs 22,500, Rs 30,000 and Rs 37,500, respectively. They also want the base fees for the science stream of secondary schools to be Rs 45,000.
If a school intends to charge higher than the base fees, they need to apply to the fee regulatory committee for ratification. If the annual fee sought per student is lower than the base fees, schools just need to convey this to the education department.
