The Gujarat Police suspended 10 traffic police personnel in Ahmedabad after taking cognizance of a video in which a Delhi-based man, Kanav Manchanda, alleged that he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 after he told the personnel that he had a liquor bottle in his car while he was on way to watch the ICC World Cup final on Sunday.
Carrying or consuming liquor without a proper licence is illegal in Gujarat under the Prohibition law. in video Manchanda is seen alleging that traffic police personnel stopped him near Nana Chiloda Circle and asked if he had alcohol in his car. When he said that he had one sealed bottle, “four or five policemen” took him around in their vehicle “harassing him”. He claimed that they first demanded Rs 2 lakh and finally agreed to Rs 20,000, which he paid by UPI
