The University of Wollongong from Australia has chosen Pragya-2 within GIFT SEZ as the location for its international branch campus where the university will offer courses starting next year. This makes UOW the second foreign university to establish a presence in GIFT City, following Deakin University.
The decision to create its inaugural IBC in this location was made after a delegation from the University of Wollongong visited in September. Students at this campus will have the opportunity to earn Australian degrees.
The University of Wollongong has secured two floors, totaling 50,000 square feet of space within their nearly completed building in the GIFT SEZ area. The university is set to commence operations by the end of July next year. GIFT City is poised to become a hub for international universities, which can contribute to curbing brain drain, providing students with access to international education at more affordable costs. Additionally, students from neighboring countries will find GIFT City an attractive destination for pursuing their studies, offering lower costs compared to the main campuses of these universities. The Savvy Group is also engaged in discussions with six more international universities.
The group emphasizes that this initiative will feature India’s first-ever vertical structure for a university, with the building expected to host large corporate entities as well.
