The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has introduced five new vocational subjects to the Class 10 curriculum this year. This means that, compared to the nine vocational subjects offered in the previous year, there will be examinations conducted for 14 subjects this year.
The state currently has 1,150 schools that provide education for Classes 9-12 and teach vocational subjects approved under SSA. These subjects encompass areas such as healthcare, beauty and wellness, travel and tourism, retail, electronics and hardware, agriculture, apparel, home furnishings, automotive, and hospitality. The department has now added subjects related to banking, financial and insurance services, food processing, IT-ITES, plumbing, sports-physical education, fitness and leisure.
The board have suggested that there may be an increase in the number of students taking vocational exams this year, as the curriculum now includes five additional subjects. The final exams for Classes 10-12 are scheduled to commence on March 11.
