Domestic-to-domestic transfer facility has now started at Ahmedabad Airport. This newly dedicated facility will reduce passenger security checks and waiting times, as well as the minimum connecting time (MCT) for airlines.
The infrastructure for the new transfer facility allows passengers taking connecting flights from Ahmedabad airport to proceed directly to the departure security hold area after being frisked at the security check area. This facility eliminates the need for passengers to exit the terminal after arriving at the airport; they can be directly catch to their next flight. A dedicated security check area for transferring passengers can handle around 130 passengers per hour.
One in every 20 arrivals at Ahmedabad airport is a transfer passenger, meaning that more than 1500 passengers use connecting flights. The facility for the Domestic Transfer Security Check Area includes one baggage X-ray machine, two frisking booths (one for women and one for men), four handheld metal detectors, one Explosive Trace Detector (ETD), and fifteen CISF personnel.
However, the new facility will be available for departing flights of passengers booked on the same airline. Travelers booked on different airlines for the two legs of their journey will have to complete exit formalities from the terminal, including retrieving their luggage from the arrival hall.
Passengers in the domestic-to-domestic transfer facilities who have a boarding pass for a connecting flight must follow the transfer signboards upon arrival at the airport. Passengers who do not have a boarding pass for a connecting flight can contact an airline official to obtain one. If there is enough time before the connecting flight, passengers can enjoy shopping, dining, relaxing, and utilizing the various facilities available at the airport. This facility will also benefit airlines in connecting to more cities with a minimum connecting time (MCT).
