The Gandhinagar District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered Make My Trip India Pvt Ltd and a hotel in Bhuj town to pay Rs 8,000 to a customer who was denied rooms despite his booking being confirmed.
Haresh Barot from Sargasan had planned a family trip to Kutch in November 2021, and had booked two rooms at Hotel Shree Radhakrushna in Bhuj for November 6 and 7. He made the booking in the first week of November paying Rs 6,676.
Upon reaching the hotel on November 6, he was told that rooms were not available and that there was no booking on his name that the hotel had knowledge of. Barot had to go to Mundra for night stay. He issued an online notice to MakeMyTrip for cyber fraud, and the company refunded the amount in January 2022. When Barot sued the company and the hotel in the consumer commission demanding Rs 3 lakh compensation for harassment, MakeMyTrip said that it is just an online facilitator. Its responsibilities are over once a booking is confirmed.
After hearing the case, the commission said the consumer had to suffer because of the lack of coordination between the booking firm and the hotel, and ordered them to pay Rs 7,000 compensation. He is eligible to recover Rs 1,000 from them as well.
