In a shocking incident, a woman from Moradabad had kept Rs 18 lakh cash in a bank locker for nearly a year and found that her money was damaged by termites. The incident took place at the Bank of Baroda.
The incident came to light when locker owner Alka Pathak was called by the bank for the locker’s annual maintenance and KYC verification.
Alka had put the money along with some jewelry in the locker in October 2022 for her daughter’s wedding.
Upon unlocking the locker, she was shocked to see all her banknotes damaged by the termites. Alka immediately reported the incident to the bank’s branch manager. The babk authorities immediately started an investigation into the matter.
A similar incident took place in February when Rs 2.15 lakh was kept in a locker at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Udaipur was destroyed by termites.
