Private companies functioning as aggregators, such as OLA, UBER, JUGNOO, RAPIDO, etc., facilitate ride bookings for passengers through online applications.
Both drivers and passengers use these online apps during their journeys.
The Ports and Transport Department of the Government of Gujarat has stated in a note today that it has recently observed that these companies are also employing non-transport vehicles (those with white number plates) for ride bookings.
The government has in its note further stated, ‘It’s essential to note that the aggregation of non-transport vehicles is prohibited through a letter dated 16/04/2021 from the Department of Ports and Transport, Gandhinagar (letter No. MVD/102021/S.Fa/Kh). Therefore, vehicle owners with non-transport (white number plate) vehicles are urged not to engage with these aggregator companies. Additionally, passengers are advised against using non-transport vehicles for rides booked through online apps.’
The note further said, ‘Private companies operating as aggregators, like OLA, UBER, JUGNOO, RAPIDO, etc., are not authorized to aggregate non-transport vehicles. Those found in violation will face appropriate actions.’
