Multidimensional Poverty Index 2023 was released by NITI Aayog. Accordingly, in the last 5 years, the number of poor people in Gujarat has decreased by 47.84 lakhs. While Dahod has become the poorest district in Gujarat with 38.27% poor population and Dang has recorded a 30% decrease in the number of poor.
According to the report, 13.5 crore people have come out of poverty in the country in 4 years. In 5 years, the number of poor in the country has reduced by 13.5 crores which is about 15 percent of the population. Uttar Pradesh has seen the largest reduction in the number of poor people by 3.43 crore.
Several parameters like nutrition, years of schooling, sanitation, potable water, electricity, housing were included in this index. the number of poor in the urban areas of Gujarat is 3.81% as per the population census estimates, the population of Gujarat in 2020 is estimated at 6.88 crore. 11.66% of them are poor. The number of poor in Gujarat in 2016 was 18.47%. The number of poor from rural areas of Gujarat is 17.15%. While the number of poor in urban areas is 3.81%.
