Seven blind students of Minnie Cama Secondary/Higher Secondary School cleared the Maths exam. in 2022 only two students of the school cleared math exam.
Interestingly the principal Manu Chaudhari of the school encouraged his visually impaired students to choose Basic Maths as a subject citing the inspiring story of Srikanth Bolla from Andhra Pradesh. Bolla, a visually impaired student scored full marks in Mathematics and later went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Maths often find few takers among visually impaired mainly due to a lack of special educators for the subject. BPA’s Bhushan Punani has insisted on teaching students maths and technology. his support helped the students opt for basic maths. The subject is a must for all competitive exams of the government and has around 30% weightage in overall scores. Moreover,
Vrajdas Tank, 16 who scored 63 in Basic Maths said he took up the subject as he plans to opt for Bachelor in Computer Application and later prepare for competitive exams.
Ayaj Parmar, 16, who scored 56 said he used technology to learn the concepts. “Algebra was a bit difficult but revision helped,” he said.
Kunjan Dholakia, 18, who scored 50 said he took a lot of help from the studentgrow app to learn the concepts. “Maths is learning by doing and our teachers were our support system,” said Dholakia.
