The Gujarat government is set to build 10 new hostels for working women in Gujarat’s eight different cities under the gender mainstreaming campaign of the Gender Resource Centre.
Along with increasing urbanisation, migration from rural to urban areas is experiencing a spike as well. Finding accommodation for women becomes a relatively tough task, and thus, the government has planned the construction of these hostels. Two hostels each are to be set up in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and one each in Surat, Junagadh, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Rajkot. A total of ₹2 cr will be spent under this campaign.
The aim is to maximise this project’s efficiency and benefit the working women the most by building these accommodation facilities. Several policies and projects on trial-based runs are also to be carried out. The campaign will be monitored by the committee set up under the Gender Resource Centre’s chief secretary.
