A man and a woman from Gujarat were recently caught at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi trying to travel to Canada using other people’s passports.
26-year-old Hardik Prajapati from a village in Mehsana district and Hiral Patel (21) from Gota in Ahmedabad were caught trying to travel without a valid visa.
Prajapati and Patel had checked-in at the Chennai airport for their entire journey from Chennai to Delhi and Toronto.
three human smugglers, two from Canada and one in the US gave the duo the passports belonging to a couple from Ludhiana who settled in Canada in March.
On scrutiny with the concerned airlines, it was found that these two passengers were checked-in from Chennai for their entire journey from Chennai to Delhi and from Delhi to Toronto,” reads a communique from the IGI airport zone of Delhi Police.
The passports of Prajapati and Patel were checked by a police officer at IGI airport and it was found that they belonged to Shivani Bansal and Sunny Bansal from Ludhiana, Punjab.
Prajapati and Patel told police that they were contacted by human smugglers who gave them the forged passports of the Ludhiana couple at Chennai airport. The two managed to check-in at the Chennai airport and began their journey.
