A businessman from Thaltej, who deals in asphalt and road construction contracts, lodged a complaint with the Bodakdev police against a couple from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that they cheated him of Rs 75 lakh on the pretext of providing 225 tonnes of asphalt.
Haresh Pandya (48) said in his FIR that he owns an asphalt trading business and has been taking road construction contracts since 2009. So for business purposes, he comes in contact with many people across the country. In 2018, Pandya met a couple from Ghaziabad, Ila and Daman Malhotra, who were also in the asphalt trading business. Pandya said he did business with Malhotra for three years.
In 2021, Pandya had asked for 225 tonnes of asphalt. The couple told them that they would get asphalt from the Kandla port. For which he demanded Rs 15 lakh and later asked for another Rs 60 lakh on 20 October 2021 for delivery.
Pandya said that he sent vehicles to take delivery on October 20, 2021. But it was learned that the couple had not sent any stock to the port. When he tried to contact both, their phones were switched off. Pandya finally approaches the Bodakdev police and files a complaint against Daman and Ila for breach of trust, cheating and abetment.
