The Central Railway announced on Tuesday that the Neral Matheran narrow gauge toy train will continue to be suspended from June 10 to October 15 due to safety concerns. Because of the risk of landslides and stone falling, the train services are always suspended during the monsoon.
Notably, the central Railways announcement was made three days after the train derailed on its way down to Neral, despite the fact that no passengers were hurt.
The CR release stated that shuttle services between Matheran and Aman Lodge, the station close to Dasturi point beyond which vehicles are not permitted, will continue to run throughout the monsoon.
It added that between Matheran and Aman Lodge stations, six pairs of regular passenger services and one material special service would run daily from Monday through Friday.
