At a project cost of Rs 212.1 crore, a state-of-the-art archaeological museum in Vadnagar is being built that incorporates immersive technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality.
The museum will be set up in a three-story structure close to an archaeological site and will present the town’s 2,500-year history through the lenses of seven different cultural eras. The excavated site will feature a walkway that visitors can experience.
The state government is in charge of supervising the project’s execution while the Union Ministry of Culture finances it. Over 40,000 artefacts found during excavations will be on display in the museum, and immersive technologies like AR/VR, 3D displays, replicas, and dioramas will improve the visitor experience. Numerous studies into Vadnagar’s art, architecture, and population history are also in progress.
Vadnagar, located approximately 100 kilometres from Ahmedabad, is a historic town with a population of around 28,000. In December 2022, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced that Vadnagar town and the iconic Sun Temple at Modhera in Gujarat were added to the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
