At Tragad, the Amc’s search for a location to plant trees in honour of World Environment Day on June 5 has come to an end.
The civic organisation had previously been looking for a plot in the South zone, but the plans fell through. Now, the 28,000 square metre plot in Tragad will be used by the AMC.
On June 5, the AMC’s Standing Committee decided to plant close to 7,500 saplings, with a goal of planting 75,000 in a month. A 5,000 square metre area of the 28,000 square metre plot will be developed, and it will include a lake. A natural body of water that can be filled by the upcoming monsoon is what is intended.
Chief Ministher Bhupendra Patel is also likely to attend the event on June 5. He will also inaugurate the Ahmedabad Municipal Trasport Service bus stand at Lal Darwaja, which has been given a heritage makeover, on the same day.
To prevent uprooting and injury to commuters during the monsoon, the Standing Committee has instructed AMC officials to make sure that large trees on the road are pruned before the rainy season. The committee has also requested that all work on roads and utility lines be finished by June 15.
Officials have also been asked to expedite the work on Jagatpur Bridge by June15. The AMC also plans to come up with newly designed benches for all zones.
