NEHU, Shillong, and Gujarat University virtually launched the Gujarat Bhavan at NEHU’s campus here on Sunday to mark the beginning of their collaborative journey.
Later, “Natural Farming, Agripreneurship, and Cooperatives” certificate programme was also introduced.
In the presence of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, NEHU and the Indian Institute of Sustainability, Gujarat University, signed an MoU on November 8 of last year, marking the beginning of this journey.
The launch of the Gujarat Bhawan and the certificate course took place at NEHU’s Shillong Campus during the national seminar on ‘Organic farming in North-East India: A vision toward Sustainable Agriculture, Livelihood and Nutritional Security’ organised by the BIRAC’s BioNEST Bio-Incubator Facility, Tura Campus in association with ICAR RC-NEH Region Umiam, IPR Cell, NEHU, and Indian Institute of Sustainability, Gujarat University.
Gujarat Governor Devvrat was the chief guest of the inaugural function. He was accompanied by the First Lady of Gujarat, Darshana Devi.
Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla chaired the function.
After the lighting the lamp, the Gujarat University syndicate members who were present lit the lamp in their honour. Student and faculty exchanges between the two universities are a requirement of the MoU, claims a statement.
The NEHU VC concluded his remarks by announcing that, in a manner similar to the Gujarat Bhavan opening at NEHU, a Meghalaya Bhavan will also open at Gujarat University.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Sudhanshu Jangir, Director of Indian Institute of sustainability, Gujarat University. Jangir said the MoU signed focuses on mutual cooperation in some significant areas like climate change, cooperation, sustainability, agriculture value chain management and agro processing which could eventually help both the regions to come together towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Goal, 2030.
