Following his century, which helped Gujarat Titans to another victory in the Indian Premier League 2023 and eliminated Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore, Shubman Gill and his sister Shahneel were targeted out and abused on social media.
What a wholesum day,” Shubman Gill’s sister Shahneel wrote on Insta while sharing some pictures from the match. Reacting to the post with hateful comments for both Shahneel and Shubman. Her post came as defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) handed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) a premature exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Sunday.
Records were smashed and dreams were shattered when RCB lost the match and had to exit the tournament. Upset RCB fans took to social media and attacked Shubman Gill and his sister Shahneel and even flooded the comment section of her post with abuses.
Fans Back Gill Siblings
Seeing the hateful comments, many social media users tweeted in their support. One user wrote, “Look at the tweets today for Shubman Gill and his sister. Man this is why I hated when Kohli – Anushka pardoned that “IIT graduate” who gave rape threat to vamika. Some of these guys need to be behind bars and careers ruined. He should have been made an example to stop all this.”
Another user wrote, “Some of the sick kohli fans abusing Gill and his family (especially his sister) This toxicity and the negative energy creates by these sk called fans is also one reason for the king to not see the light GILL is the Future superstar of Indian cricket.”
Shubman Gill Scores A Ton
Batting star Shubman Gill scored his second straight IPL century, laced with five fours and eight sixes at a strike-rate of 200 in a high-scoring thriller in the final league game at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. Gill’s scintillating century helped GT register a dashing victory to dash RCB’s hopes of entering the playoffs. Shubman sizzled with an unbeaten 104 off 52 balls.
“I am in good form, it’s about getting a start and then converting it into a big one. In the first half of the IPL, I was missing out on those big ones. I was getting a lot of 40s and 50s. Thankfully, it’s all working out for me in the business end of the IPL. You need to keep playing shots in T20 cricket. You have to keep the intent and keep applying yourself, keep the belief,” Gill said after the match.
