Shibani Roy, 32, who teaches management and accounting at GLS University and is pursuing a PhD in management, has brought honour to Ahmedabad by being named “Mrs India Queen.”
Interested in classical and folk dance as a child, Shibani Roy never thought that her talent would be honored on stage and that too by Bollywood diva Shilpa Shetty.
Shibani said to sources by recalling the day she represented Gujarat University at the National Youth Festival, where her group emerged as the winner. Later I also participated in shows like ‘India’s Got Talent 4’, where our group performed with 2 thousand divas and managed to secure the top 6 position. Apart from this, I guided a dance group in the show ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ and gained recognition as ‘LED Girls’ – in which I installed LED lights in Ghaghra’, Shibani said.
Shibani later decided to participate in the pageant and did so with such enthusiasm that she was selected among all. She added that ‘I was harbouring a feeling of being good for nothing in my personal space. A good career helped me move forward. Encouraged by my mentors, parents and friends to go ahead, I started preparing. I started styling and designing for every round from beachwear and desert shoot to personal interview, talent round, ramp walk and final Q & A’.
All the rounds except the final round were held in Dubai, where Shibani had earlier also won the Mrs. Gujarat and Mrs. Glamorous titles. While the crown and prize money was a bonus, she chose to talk about the 22 women who were with her. ‘We believe that beauty pageants are all about beauty and brains. But the ‘Mrs’ tag comes with conscience, your thought process, patience, warmth and understanding in dealing with people. For once in my life I can use ‘#womensupportingwomen’ with pride and joy’.
