The traffic police will soon begin a new initiative that involves blocking off turns from service roads onto main roads, particularly during peak hours, in order to combat the city’s growing traffic issues.
It will be implemented in the city’s eastern regions first. These turns can be blocked off to improve traffic flow on major thoroughfares and relieve congestion. In a few days, the project will be implemented.
The traffic police has identified 10 junctions in the eastern part of the city, including Naroda Patiya, Krishnanagar, Thakkarnagar, Khodiyaarnagar, Nikol Kathwada, Panjrapole, Vastral Cross Roads, Rabari Colony Crossroads, and Jashodanagar, where barricades will be placed on service road entry and exit points. This will prevent vehicles from randomly entering the main roads.
The SP Ring Road, which serves as the main commuter route for residents of the west of the city travelling to the east of the city, is where the traffic department has taken this initiative to lower traffic accidents. The project aims to reduce peak-hour traffic congestion.
Most of the service roads in the eastern part of the city are crowded with illegal stalls and small shops, causing traffic congestion. The traffic department had to step in as the municipal authorities were not doing enough to solve the problem.
