An alert passenger captured the drunk AMTS driver on camera, which went viral, and the driver was apprehended before the ride could continue. The authorities were alerted to this, and they informed the police of the offender to ensure quick police action.
The offender was operating bus GJ01 FT 1196 when the incident took place on Friday at the Maninagar bus stop.
“The driver was not operating the AMTS bus on the route,” said Vallabh Patel, chairman of the AMTS Committee. People would reserve this particular bus for important occasions. Although he was discovered to be intoxicated, he had already finished his job and parked the bus at the Maninagar bus stop at 12:10 p.m. He took a break after that, and it’s possible that he drank it (alcohol) then. Before he could return to his duties, he was discovered. He wasn’t drunk enough to be driving, then.
As he came back from the break, a passenger on the bus stop found him drunk and made his video and made it viral.“Our station in-charge got to know about it immediately and he called in the police. The driver was handed over to the police then. He is an employee of the Tak service contractor. In these cases, we ask the contractor to fire such employees. We check the drivers through breath analysers every day. We will penalize him as per the tender clause, too,” Patel said. Maninagar Inspector D P Unadkat said, “We had received a control message. We have arrested him and an offence of prohibition has been registered against him.”
