On Friday, almost ten years after the actress’ horrific death, a special CBI court in Mumbai delivered its decision in the shocking Jiah Khan Suicide case. Jiah’s mother accused actor Sooraj Pancholi, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, of aiding suicide. Sooraj had a relationship with Jiah till she committed suicide.
On Friday, the court found Sooraj “not guilty” and gave him a clean chit, claiming a lack of evidence.
Sooraj Pancholi acquitted in Jiah Khan Suicide case
The verdict was originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m., but Jiah’s mother Rabia filed some last-minute documents to the court, causing the verdict to be delayed until 12:30 p.m.
The judge summoned Sooraj and announced that the actor had been acquitted owing to a “lack of evidence.”
Zarina, Sooraj’s mother, had stated prior to the verdict, “I know my son is innocent.” I am certain that my son will receive justice since he is innocent.”
The court also advised Jiah’s mother, Rabia Khan, that she might appeal the judgement.
Jiah Khan death
Jiah was discovered hanging in her Juhu bedroom on June 3, 2013. Along with her mortal remains, her mother Rabiya discovered a suicide note left behind by the ‘Ghajini’ actress, in which she blamed Sooraj for her death.
Rabiya later filed a police report, accusing Sooraj of “murdering” her daughter. Sooraj was detained when the suicide note was discovered, but he was eventually released on bail.
Following his release on bail, Rabiya petitioned the Bombay High Court for the investigation to be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Not only that, but she had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his assistance in obtaining justice for her daughter.
