Repeaters could possibly enroll as regular students, according to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board. The demand was recently made by the Gujarat State School Management Association and is reportedly in the final stages of approval.
Currently, students who fail their class 10 exams are not permitted to apply for admission to schools. They have to do their homework at home and pass as repeaters. The proposal was discussed at a recent board meeting, according to the association’s president, Bhaskar Patel.
“Though it (proposal) was not part of the agenda, it was discussed and there was consensus on allowing class 10 failed students to return to school. There is no logic in the move of not allowing students in the school and forcing them to prepare for class 11 from home,” Patel said.
The proposal is in the final stages of approval, according to officials, and a written circular will be released soon, despite the fact that board chairman A J Shah could not be reached for comment.
