One of the most talented sitar players in the world is widely regarded as Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Shahid Parvez Khan is a regular performer in many nations, including India, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. He has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the Padma Shri from the Government of India.

Ustad Kadar Khan is one of the most charismatic performers of Indian classical music today, who has been creating complex rhythmic structures and improvisations with an energy and style rarely seen in a traditional musician. The unique tone and astute artistic sense of Ustad Shahid Parvez have become his hallmark as a respected performer and composer. The first LLS series of GIIS Ahmedabad’s new academic session was based on visual and performing arts where his performance style has inspired the GIIS students and teachers towards the Indian classical instruments with his unique combination of emotional depth and brilliant technical mastery.

Parents, teachers, and other GIIS Ahmedabad stakeholders gathered to witness the mystical musical day on campus.  Shlokas and lamp lighting signalled the start of the event. He introduced his Table and Sitar to the students and parents before his mesmerising performance. He also spoke to the audience and students about the importance of Indian classical music around the world. He emphasised the significance of Ragas, which distinguishes Indian classical music from Western music. The musical maestro performed ‘Raag Dopahar’ which enthralled the audience through the world of heavenly music. The most jaw-dropping performance of the day was ‘Tabla and Sitar Jugalbandi’ which made the event memorable for the years to come.

On the occasion, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, India’s greatest Sitar Player, said:“Learning English as a language is mandatory, wearing modern clothes is a necessity, and eating junk/fast food is perfectly acceptable, but these young children need to understand the importance of Indian culture and heritage. People across the world are far better than us in major arenas like arts, dance, sports, but they worship Indian Classical music and that’s what makes us unique in the world. I feel content when I see how committed, enthusiastic, and hard-working students are, and I am grateful for the opportunity to mentor them on their journey. It’s wonderful to see how GIIS supports students in their ambitions by encouraging them to participate and pursue interests beyond academics.”

Rajiv Bansal, Director-Operations Global Indian International School (GIIS), India said, “We are delighted to have Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan for the first LLS series of the new academic session initiative by GIIS Ahmedabad. GIIS’ 9 Gems pedagogy focuses not only on academics but also on excelling in co-curricular activities, and mentors like Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan ji help our students achieve excellence. We always strive to encourage and support our students in pursuing their interests. Lectures from experts give them the much-needed guidance and exposure required to excel in their chosen interests.”

GIIS has always believed that music has a very spiritual background. It is like sanctity that is almost like worship. GIIS Ahmedabad conducts Leadership Lecture Series (LLS) to provide cognitive knowledge to the students on a holistic 9GEMS framework of education, which emphasises on nine areas of academic and non-academic excellence. Skills development is a big part of the school’s educational philosophy, and it uses the Tsavvy technology and great infrastructure to provide platforms to students who want to excel in various skills.
