Early on Sunday morning, the Anandnagar police stormed a liquor party being place at a home close to Shalby Hospital and detained eight persons, including the son of the owner of a well-known construction company.
Cops raided Rajdeep Villa-1, on the Prahladnagar Road and arrested Navin Vaswani, son of Ashok Vaswani of the Venus Group and his cousin Kapil Dilip Vaswani. The other arrested include Harijeet Shyam Gulbani, resident of Venison Villa, Shilaj, Pravin Tarachand Mahetani, resident of Pushpak Bungalows, Bopal, Deep Thakkar, resident of Sunrise Park Society, Vastrapur and Nikhil Ajit Mahetani, resident of Amraplas Bungalows, behind Wide Angle, Rahul Vaghela, resident of Nilkanth Residency, Naranpura and Jay Surti, resident of Centre Point Residency, Panchvati.
Four others who had not consumed liquor were released. The police also seized mobiles and cars belonging to the eight worth Rs 16.96 lakh
The liquor party was planned by Navin, who was said to have been celebrating his birthday on Monday with his cousin and friends. When questioned about the alcohol, Navin responded that he had purchased it in Dubai during a two-month visit. He lacked the necessary liquor licence. An anonymous caller informed the Anandnagar police that there was a party there with alcohol. A group of males were drinking alcohol in an open area next to the cottage when cops arrived. The cops found a bottle of Le Grand Noir Rose Wine worth Rs 1,600 and other liquor and several glasses from the spot.
PI V M Desai said they arrested eight people under the prohibition laws. “They were later released on bail,” said Desai.
