The Gujarat High Court has ordered the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to submit a detailed point-by-point response to the voluminous report submitted by the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority, including details, photographs on the state of road conditions and the stray cattle menace throughout the city.
The court stated unequivocally that the municipal commissioner and deputy commissioner are responsible for overseeing road repairs.
The court took notice of a contempt petition filed by Advocate Amit Panchal on Thursday, alleging that the important orders and guidelines issued by the Gujarat High Court on issues such as stray cattle and dilapidated roads across the state, including Ahmedabad, are being grossly violated by authorities such as the state government, AMC, and the police force.
It was pointed out that despite repeated orders from the Gujarat High Court and assurances by the government and authorities before the court, even today the situation of stray cattle menace and run down roads has remained unchanged.
Despite serious and alarming rate of accidents, injuries and deaths of innocent citizens due to stray cattle across the state, there is no effective compliance of the HC orders by the government, the civic body, or concerned authorities.Even the court’s order to continue catching stray cattle continuously for 24 hours is not being followed, it added.
Similarly, the condition of the city’s roads is very bad and run down. Even after the report given by the Gujarat Legal Services Authority on the cruelty of stray cattle and the condition of dilapidated roads, the AMC authorities are yet to implement the high court’s order.
