A man has been arrested for impersonating a member of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in order to obtain security cover in Kashmir.
On March 3, the accused, Kiran Patel of Gujarat, was arrested for impersonating himself as Additional Director (Strategy & Campaigns) in the Prime Minister’s Office. A local court in Srinagar has committed him to judicial custody, and he is currently on police remand until March 17.
An FIR under sections 419,420,467,468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and the investigation was taken up.
The incident came to light after the Jammu and Kashmir Police CID wing provided information to Kashmir Police about an impersonator staying at the Lalit Grand Hotel, namely Kiran Patel. The investigation was led by a team of SP East Srinagar and SDPO Nehru Park. According to the police, many relevant people have been interviewed in this case, which is still in its early stages of investigation.
