The state government informed the state legislature on Saturday that two people had been arrested in connection with the seizure of Rs 375 crore worth of drugs at the Adani Group-controlled Mundra port in Gujarat.
In a written response to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Umesh Makwana’s question, the government stated that 75 kg of heroin was seized at the port in the last two years. In response to a follow-up question, the government stated that the drugs seized at the port had not been destroyed as of January 31, 2023.
The state legislative assembly was informed Saturday that liquor and drugs worth Rs 4,269 crore were seized from 25 districts in Gujarat over the last two years.
The seizures included Rs 4,058 crore in charas, ganja, heroin, and other drugs, as well as Rs 211 crore in liquor, according to the government’s written responses to various questions asked in the legislature. Over the last two years, the government has arrested over 3.39 lakh people in drug and liquor seizures, with 2,989 still at large.
During this two-year period, Vadodara led the 25 districts in drug and liquor seizures worth Rs 1,620 crore. Bharuch, with Rs 1,389 crore in seizures, and Kutch, with Rs 1,040 crore in seizures, were among the top districts with the highest quantum of seizures.
During this two-year period, approximately 37 lakh bottles of various types of liquor were seized in a state where liquor consumption is prohibited.
