According to a press release issued Thursday, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch seized 1,912 bottles of Indian-made English liquor (IMFL) and arrested two people.
“We arrested Jitendra alias Jitu Raval, 43, a resident of Ranip area in the city on Tuesday, and Bhiyaram Chaudhary, 29, a resident of Odhav area on Wednesday,” said AD Parmar, inspector at the detection of crime branch police station. The former was detained for two days on Wednesday and the latter on Thursday. Raval was apprehended with 1,372 bottles of IMFL that he obtained with six others from Methipura and Dantiwada in Banaskantha and areas such as Sanchore and Abu road in Rajasthan, according to the release.
According to Parmar, other accused Vadalsinh Vaghela, Gulabsinh Vaghela, Laxman Ram Devasi, and Anandpalsinh Devada have yet to be apprehended. Chetan Mali and Babloo Christian, two other suspects in the case, have yet to be apprehended. Chaudhary was apprehended by the crime branch with 540 bottles of IMFL. According to the release, his two brothers — Kavraram Chaudhary and Puraram Chaudhary — who stored the liquor bottles in plastic containers intended for organic manure have yet to be arrested. According to Parmar, the raid seized over Rs 37 lakh in muddamal and 1,912 bottles of liquor.
The suspects were arrested under various sections of the Prohibition Act.
