In the 62 years that the Ahmedabad Branch of the Western Indian Regional Council (WIRC) of the ICAI has existed, Dr. Anjali Choksi has made history by becoming the branch’s first female chairperson. The Ahmedabad branch, which has more than 14,500 members and 35,000 students, is the second-largest ICAI branch in India.
Dr. Choksi, a CA, was first elected to the group in 2019 as a member of the managing committee. She and her husband Nirav Choksi, a fellow CA, are the only husband-and-wife team to have served as chairperson. Nirav served as chair in the fiscal year 2018–19. As the ICAI enters its 75th year of existence, Dr. Choksi is appointed. The most recent ICAI president, CA Aniket Talati of the Ahmedabad Branch, held the distinction of being the position’s second youngest holder.
Abhinav Malaviya, Sunil Sanghvi, and Rinkesh Shah have all been chosen to serve as vice chairs, secretaries, and treasurers, respectively.
The action plan for the year includes a 10% reduction in coaching fees for girl students of the branch, a Women Flexi Hours job portal, tax literacy drives, inculcating research culture among the members and completion of the new iconic ICAI building and other philanthropic activities.
